Roseworthy Water Scheme

Dematec has been appointed as the electrical and control system contractor for the Roseworthy Water Scheme.

The Roseworthy Water Scheme serves two primary purposes:

  • Supports the timely and orderly development of the Roseworthy Township Expansion by providing a controlled system for managing stormwater and supplying non-drinking water for public spaces and potential industrial use. This sustainable water supply is crucial for creating environmentally friendly infrastructure in the expanded township; and
  • Contributes to the long-term water security vision for the Barossa region by making around 800 ML per annum of harvested stormwater available for agricultural purposes.

The Roseworthy Water Scheme represents a collaborative effort involving both public and private entities through commercial agreements among Light Regional Council, landowners, developers of the Roseworthy Township Expansion, Kingsford Regional Industrial Estate, and Bunyip Water, the owner of the water infrastructure.

The Roseworthy Water Scheme infrastructure comprises various elements, such as multiple stormwater treatment and harvesting wetlands with pump stations, interconnected pipelines, additional water storage facilities, and treatment plants/pump stations. Distribution pipelines will deliver water from treatment plants to supply points within the Roseworthy and Kingsford precincts for landscaping public areas and potential industrial use. Primarily situated within the Roseworthy and Kingsford development zones, this infrastructure will integrate with the existing Bunyip Water scheme, spanning from Gawler Belt to the Western Barossa Valley.

This Scheme brings numerous benefits to all stakeholders. For landowners and developers, it provides an efficient stormwater discharge system, supporting the sustainability and liveability aspects of the vision for the Roseworthy Township Expansion. Bunyip Water gains access to a new, low-salinity water source, enhancing the region’s water security, with Seppeltsfield Wines as a key customer. The scheme also ensures a sustainable water supply for the expanding township, aids in environmental conservation by managing stormwater, and reduces reliance on potable water sources, enhancing community resilience and financial sustainability for the Council.

The project’s completion will take multiple years, with the initial phase scheduled for commissioning and operation during this year. The remaining stages will be finalized once all involved landowners and developers have initiated and substantially completed their land division.
